Frequently Asked

Why should I buy a Hippie Cow versus other types of BEEF?

When you buy from Hippie Cow Beef, you’re buying more than just meat; you’re showing your respect for the well-being of both animals and our planet. Not only is our beef more flavorful and natural than anything you can find on the grocery shelves, but your purchase also supports sustainable agriculture and at-risk veterans. Our herd is 100% pasture raised and free to graze. By never confining our cattle to overcrowded pens, we reduce illness, suffering and unnecessary stress on our animals and environment. That means zero hormones or antibiotics, just happy animals and healthy pastures.

The food you feed your family should not be a mystery; y’all deserve the best in both flavor and health. Only meat that reaches this standard can be labeled Hippie Cow beef.

What does sustainable ranching mean?

Traditional feedlot ranching demands thousands of gallons of fuel and water and generates vast amounts of waste. By utilizing “mob grazing,” an internationally recognized soil-preservation method, we can minimize the use of herbicides, pesticides, and GMO feeds that feedlots and traditional cattle operations depend upon. By encouraging our cows to roam, we are able to reduce the herd’s impact on the soil and foster a natural relationship between grazer and grassland.

Where can I buy Hippie Cow Beef?

The Hippie Cow ranch is based in northern Texas.  We sell our premium beef exclusively through our website and over the phone, direct to customers. No middlemen, no extra food miles, no hidden costs.

How much space will my order take up?

The standard rule of thumb is one-cubic-foot of space per 35 pounds of meat.

What are the health benefits of grass-fed beef?

Grass-fed beef is proven to be leaner and to contain less saturated fat and higher protein content than conventional grain-fed meat. Meats labeled “Choice” and “Prime” (typically 35-65% fat content) are raised or finished on GMO grain and derive their flavor from this unhealthily high fat content. True pasture-raised meat contains only 15-25% fat. All of its flavor derives from quality of the meat itself. The result is delicious and healthy beef that is higher in heart-healthy omega-3 fats and low in inflammatory omega-6 fats. According to a Mayo Clinic Study, grass-fed beef also has more antioxidant vitamins, such as vitamin E, and more conjugated linoleic acid, a type of fat that's believed to reduce heart disease and cancer risks.

How long do I have to wait to get my meat?

Depending on when you order and where you are located, expect to wait 2-6 days. We ship orders on Mondays to ensure freshness.

How is my order shipped?

We carefully package your vacuum-packed meat in insulated boxes on dry ice, with liners to prevent contact. All orders are shipped via UPS.

Please check your address carefully before submitting your order! We cannot guarantee the condition of the package if the delivery service has to reroute the package.

How is my order processed?

We process our meat locally using only humane animal practices. We personally supervise the harvest of a small number of cattle at one time in order to reduce stress. The plant we use is inspected and approved. All meat is Texas State and USDA inspected.

Why is your meat frozen?

Our meat is vacuum packed and flash frozen to -30 degrees Fahrenheit. This process preserves the taste and freshness without compromising the overall quality of our product, allowing you to always have quality meat on hand.

How do I thaw the meat?

Frozen meat should be thawed in the original package overnight in the refrigerator. To thaw meat more quickly, the sealed package of meat can be placed in cool water for a couple of hours. Never use hot water or a microwave; this will cook the meat.

We encourage you to freeze your order immediately upon arrival unless you plan to thaw and eat it immediately.

Our vacuum-pack method keeps our meat fresher for longer, however, FDA guidelines advise that you consume frozen meats within a year of purchase.

In addition to new offers and deals every month, we also offer an ongoing 10% discount for all veterans. Simply email or DM us on Instagram for the exclusive veteran’s discount code. A portion of every Hippie Cow sale will also go to veterans charities like Heroes for Horses.

We encourage bulk orders to give you the best value possible and to reduce packaging and food miles. Orders of $100 or more are always shipped for free.

We now offer single cuts for customers who really want to tailor their order. Because we are a small operation that makes every effort to minimize our environmental impact, we encourage you to order more than one cut at a time. That’s why we’ve introduced a $55 minimum at checkout
